New Official Disney.com Song of the South Links
It has been brought to my attention that Disney.com has added two important pages to their web site regarding Song of the South! The first, 100 Years of Magic, is a poll in which you can vote for Song of the South as the #1 Disney movie of the 1930's/1940's! The second page is an actual page for Song of the South on video. Although the page states that the movie is currently not available, you can let them know that you want to be notified when it becomes available! I would encourage you all to participate. Let them know we want this classic!

New Song of the South Store Now Online; Trivia Relocated
After careful consideration, I have decided to relocate the Memorabilia Store as a main section of the web site, as I can now offer more Song of the South items than just memorabilia. Its tab (shown on the left) takes the place of the previously-known Trivia section. The Trivia section, since it is directly related to the movie, has been relocated into the Movie section.

Song of the South's 55th Birthday; SongoftheSouth.net's 1st Birthday!
Limited Edition Pin Issued by Walt Disney World
On this day 55 years ago, Song of the South made its debut in Atlanta, Georgia. Also on this day, one year ago, this web site made its debut on the internet! To celebrate Song of the South's 55th anniversary, Walt Disney World released a park-exclusive Limited Edition Pin depicting Brers Fox, Bear, Frog, and Rabbit around the ornate title. These 5,000 pins quickly sold out.

An Interview with Alice Davis
This Saturday, I was honored to meet and interview Alice Davis, wife of the late legendary Disney animator Marc Davis. Alice is very well-known in the world of Disney herself, having created costumes for such Disneyland attractions as Pirates of the Carribean, It's A Small World, Carousel of Progress, and Flight to the Moon. Her Disney film work includes costumes for Sleeping Beauty and Toby Tyler.

SongoftheSouth.info Purchased
Since SongoftheSouth.net is full of information on Walt Disney's Song of the South, I thought it appropriate to purchase SongoftheSouth.info as a secondary domain name. Although this site will still officially remain SongoftheSouth.net, now both addresses will point to the same web site.

In Defense of Song of the South
For the longest time I have heard mostly disheartening and negative literary views on Song of the South. While they all have their valid reasons for criticizing the film, I have my valid reasons for praising this film. For those of you interested in hearing a little positive comments on this movie for once, I encourage you to read my Defense of Song of the South. I have revised it to address more of the issues relating to this movie and to add a bit more personalization to it.

SongoftheSouth.net Receives Major Facelift
Yes, as much as I hate to go back on my word (see November news posting below), I've made another design change! No more multi-colored sections; just a simple, easy-to-navigate universal design. I had to do it; I'm a website designer, what did you expect? I feel that the new design (version 4.0) represents the film's theme more appropriately. In any case, you will find multiple new and updated sections in this release. Enjoy!
Interested in seeing my old site designs? I put them up just for fun here.

SongoftheSouth.net Ordered Shut Down by MPAA
I received an email from the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) on April 5, charging me with "unauthorized distribution of copyrighted motion pictures" and ordering the immediate shut down of my web site by contacting my web service provider. Fortunately, I am still here but I greatly resent the way in which this event has been handled by the MPAA. I have contacted them both by email and phone and have not received a reply from them.
They were wrong in charging me with unauthorized distribution of copyrighted motion pictures: the plain fact is I have never engaged in such a thing and their failure to properly research and recognize my video ordering page as merely a click-thru link to another site's service is the cause of this unfortunate error.

Best known for his contribution to Song of the South and Splash Mountain as the voice of Brer Bear, the surviving cast member "Lightnin'" of the Amos 'N' Andy Show, and the founder of the Ebony Showcase Theater, passed away at age 90. He will be greatly missed by all.

SongoftheSouth.net Debuts
I'd like to personally welcome you all to my new web site! Originally devised in 1998 as "Brer Fox's Chickapin Hill", the site would contain quite a limited selection of memorabilia just to let people know what was out there and a good chance for me to cut my teeth on html programming. The project was abandoned when school took my best interest and I was finding more memorabilia than I could keep up with. Then, in November 1999 I launched "Song of the South Memorabilia", determined to provide the public with memorabilia and information on the movie. The site had numerous facelifts (v1.0, v2.0, and v2.1), until I completely scrapped it and devised a bigger and better site.
You are viewing the fruits of my efforts, and this will be a continuing developing project for me. One thing I can guarantee, though... no more major design changes!!! :) Thank you for visiting my site. For more information on me and the site, please visit the About section.
